Love One Another: The Gift of Friendship

I began my 5th-month post-injury on the 6th. It has been a heck of a rollercoaster already. There is so much I have learned already and so much I am still learning. I see the Lord’s hands in different ways since my injury. One thing I have seen is the way that the Lord uses friendships during our most difficult seasons. John 15:12 says, “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”

I have seen that God brings people in and out of our lives as our seasons and circumstances change. Some friendships are enduring and some friendships are momentary. The Lord always knows what we need and who is best to surround us with in different seasons of our life. I have always been the giver personality, but in this season, the Lord has surrounded me with people who are feeding my heart and soul, without any expectation of return. They truly understand that right now, I am in a place of real need and they have stepped up to be that person.

I have had a few friends that have really embodied John 15:12 as they have loved on me, been steadfast and trustworthy. They are a true balm to my soul. Just today, one of my sweet friends walked with me as I broke down. She just listened and comforted my weary soul and heart, gently reminding me of truth. I treasure that I can be completely transparent with her, without fear of judgment, gossip, or misunderstanding. Her friendship is a beautiful thing.

Real friendship embodies the commandment to love each other but the key part to that command is “as I have loved you.” A real friend loves as Jesus loves us…their love is sacrificial, genuine, and true. They can be trusted and are faithful as Jesus is. In difficult seasons, they become the hands and feet of Jesus Himself. They remind us that in spite of our circumstances, we are loved by God. They show that love by being present on His behalf…bringing words of life to strengthen our soul so we can go one step forward. I am thankful for those beautiful hands and feet…they bear the life-giving power of Jesus. They walk with me as I journey towards recovery, loving me as Christ loves the church. It is a way Jesus reminds me that He is with me in my darkest hour. Because He is faithful. Amen and Amen

Praying for you friend. I really enjoy making pix for you with God’s word just about nightly. I hope that these truths resonate with you and remind you of what you already know or teach you something new. I’m sorry you are hurting but I’m grateful that the Lord is showing you new pieces of himself or providing you with understanding that He couldn’t accomplish for you or thru you in another way. Hang in there friend. He’s not finished with you yet.

Almost every night I have sleep issues and when I do, I can always count on a text from you. I consider you one of my most faithful sisters in this battle I am in. There are no words to express how much I appreciate you.
